Our small scale company:

ROOT and SOIL,  Natural health product store was born when two mothers looked for authentic natural products for their babies. It was founded by two mompreneurs, one a textile engineer by profession and second the agro expert who was born and brought up in a coconut farm. When we started making oils and oil based products, we were able to see the difference in quality from most products in the market. We felt safe to use it on our babies. We both then started a small scale women based unit, where we employ local expert women to handmake ROOT and SOIL's products.

Our commitment:

The plastic packaging industry, worth nearly 72 billion U.S. dollars, produces 7.8 million metric tons of plastic packaging worldwide each year. Sadly, just a fraction of that is recycled and most plastics are simply thrown away.

Plastic litter is now encircling our Earth. It clutters every corner of our beautiful planet, from the deepest ocean trenches to remote parts of the Antarctic.

To be honest, while saying, "plastic is bad so let's use something else," may help decrease the amount of plastic a little bit, but we really need is a complete change in the way we use product packaging.

We need to move away from what most packaging is now "use it once and throw it away." Until we can figure that out--we are doing our best as a company to use more and more eco-friendly packaging materials.

We at ROOT and SOIL believe in simpler living - Living with nature. All our products are made from NATURALLY FARMED ingredients from the soils that hasn't known synthetics for the past 30 years. Being next to the forest areas of western ghats, the farm is a beauty in itself with abundant freshness and nutrients.

Co-Founder's Note:

“The coconuts we use for our oils and products are
mostly from our farms or the neighbourhood farms.
We have 5-6 farms here in and around our village
where they do only natural farming. We use only the
naturally harvested coconuts for our products.
That means, we wait for the coconuts to fall off from
the tree on its own. It takes about 70-80 days.
Usually, coconuts are manually harvested in
about 35-50 days. But we do not do that. We wait for
it to become fully mature. We see it as nature's gift.
We are happy when parents tell us our products are
working great and I think this is the reason“
